Police 2025 Traffic Safety Recognition Award Wall

Traffic Safety Recognition

On December 3, the Hermitage Police Department was awarded its fourth consecutive AAA Community Traffic Safety Platinum Award – the highest honor in AAA’s awards program for police departments and communities. The award recognizes innovative efforts in traffic safety, outstanding performance in areas such as DUI enforcement and pedestrian safety, and measurable reductions in traffic crashes, all with the goal of making roads safer through education and enforcement.

The department previously received AAA Silver Awards in 2017 and 2018, and a Gold Award in 2019, continuing a tradition of excellence in promoting traffic safety in Hermitage.

New Shenango Valley Animal Shelter Under Construction in Hermitage

The Shenango Valley Animal Shelter, Inc. (SVAS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is constructing a new animal shelter on Lynnwood Drive in Hermitage, replacing its current facility on Broadway Road. The new pre-engineered building, being delivered by Rien Construction, will nearly triple the shelter’s capacity and further SVAS’s mission as a no-kill shelter focused on adoption.

A capital campaign is currently underway to complete the interior of the building, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and room construction. Nearly 60% of the $750,000 fundraising goal has already been raised.

Donations can be made at www.sv-as.com or by calling 724-342-5834

Wrapping Paper

Cracking the Code on Wrapping Paper Recycling: Tips for a Greener Holiday

Recycling wrapping paper can be tricky, as the rules vary depending on the type of paper and any added decorations. To help make your celebrations more eco-friendly, here’s a quick guide to recycling wrapping paper correctly:

1.          Plain Paper: Recyclable

2.         Paper with Metallic Finishes or Glitter: Not Recyclable

3.         Plastic-Coated or Laminated Paper: Not Recyclable

4.         Ribbons, Bows, and Adornments: Remove before recycling

5.         Tissue Paper: Generally Recyclable

As always, try to re-use materials when possible, and let’s make the season greener!
