 MCCFCU Celebrates New Headquarters with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On May 29th, the Mercer County Community Federal Credit Union (MCCFCU) celebrated the opening of its new headquarters at 559 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, PA, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. CEO Sandi Carangi and Board President Ed Zipay welcomed attendees and posed with members of P W Campbell Contracting, who completed the project. MCCFCU serves members in several counties in PA and OH, offering a variety of deposit and loan products with membership starting at a $5.00 savings account deposit. The new headquarters includes a training room available for community meetings, reflecting MCCFCU’s commitment to advancing financial literacy.

As part of the grand opening of its new headquarters, MCCFCU held a drawing to award five $500 Visa gift cards to lucky winners.  In addition, another $500 will be awarded to each winner’s charitable organization of choice.

City Awards New Curbside Collection Contract to Aiken Refuse

The City recently received bids for a new five-year curbside collection contract, effective from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2029. The low bid was received from Aiken Refuse, Ellwood City, PA. All program operations – solid waste, recycling, and yard waste, tags for excess and special waste, two bulk trash days per year - will remain the same, including the same collection schedule. Residents will be receiving information from both the city and Aiken with more details prior to August 1.

Buhl Park Receives 2024 James E. Winner, Jr. Tourism Initiative Award

Congratulations to Buhl Park for receiving the 2024 James E. Winner, Jr. Tourism Initiative Award at the Visit Mercer County, PA Annual Dinner. Tom Roskos, CEO, accepted the award on behalf of Buhl Park, joined by Peggy Mazyck, President and CEO of Visit Mercer County, PA, and Board Member Karen Winner Sed. Buhl Park attracts visitors with a variety of outdoor recreation amenities and events, including Vintage Baseball, the Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament, and the Summer Concert series. Known for America's only free golf course and new fee-based golf simulators, Buhl Park is a treasured local and regional tourism magnet.

BLAM Wins Top Prize at eAcademy Demo Day with Innovative Mental Health Solution

At the eAcademy Demo Day on May 19th at HopeCAT, seven teams competed, pitching business ideas with prototypes to win a share of $5,000. BLAM, focusing on mental health, won first place and received a $2,650 investment for their flavored aglets designed to aid those with ADHD and anxiety by providing a hands-free chewing solution. Over the summer, BLAM plans to develop their business further at the eCenter at LindenPointe with guidance from their teacher Katie Parr and support from Shenango LaunchBox in downtown Sharon

City of Hermitage Appoints Police Sergeant

City Manager Gary Hinkson announced the promotion of Adam R. Mild to the rank of sergeant in the Hermitage Police Department, following the retirement of longtime sergeant Brian Robison. Sgt. Mild, who has been with the department for over 18 years and recently served as a corporal, is a graduate of Hickory High School and Edinboro University. He has completed various police training courses, earned several certifications, and received multiple commendations for exemplary duty. Chief of Police Adam Piccirillo praised Sgt. Mild for his promotion.

The Gus Macker 3on3 Basketball Tournament will take place from Friday, July 26th to Sunday, July 28th at Buhl Park, featuring twenty courts set up in the parking lot near Buhl Park Casino. Registration opens Friday from 4-7pm, followed by exciting events such as a dunk contest and 3-point shootout. City Garage Electronics Recycling Program: Covered Devices and E-Waste Collection

Covered Devices, including monitors, peripherals, desktop and laptop computers, and televisions, can be recycled at the City Garage on Virginia Road. Collection occurs year-round on the first and third Friday, 7 a.m. to Noon, excluding shutdown days. Schedule drop-offs by calling City Garage at (724) 342-0210 and purchasing a $10 tag per electronic item

Recycled tires

Tire & Household Appliance Recycling 
 
Hermitage residents can dispose of old tires and household appliances at the City Garage on Virginia Road, with a limit of four tires per visit and no cost involved. Proof of residency is necessary, and residents must call ahead to arrange drop-off. Accepted items include tires (without rims or dirt inside), all household appliances. Appliances containing Freon must have doors disabled, freon removed and properly tagged by a certified technician. Contact the Hermitage Municipal Building for more details at 724-981-0800.

Monthly H2R (Hard-to-Recycle) events are held at various participating locations around Mercer and Lawrence County. These recycling events are free to residents.
