HERMITAGE – The local Kmart was spared in a new round of closings announced Thursday.
Kmart is owned by Sears. Nationwide, the company plans to close 28 Kmart stores by the end of the year.
“We continued to focus on streamlining our operations, reducing inventory and operating expenses, and are taking incremental actions to further improve the company's performance,” the company said in a press release.
Marie Jakubec, of Hartford, said she is relieved the Hermitage store is not on the list to close.
“We usually come to this one because it’s small, and you don’t have to walk and walk to get around,” she said after shopping at the store on Thursday.
Jakubec said she is worried about the recent number of store closings and the growing trend of online shopping.
“I don’t shop online,” she said.
