All residential garbage, recycling and yard waste customers who will be transitioning from Tri-County Industries to the new provider, Aiken Refuse, on August 1st, will be receiving a packet of information from the City of Hermitage containing the following items:
Letter from the City outlining the new garbage collection service : Flyer detailing services, including new costs : What to do with your current Tri-County Industries toters and new Aiken Refuse toters
This change affects all Hermitage residents that currently receive a quarterly bill from Tri-County Industries that live in a single family home or multi-family complex of 4 units or less; but does not impact commercial or institutional business, apartment complexes and some residents who live in condo complexes or on private streets.
Beginning August 1, 2024, Aiken Refuse will become the new garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection service for Hermitage residents, replacing Tri-County Industries. Aiken submitted the low bid in a competitive bidding process for a new 5-year contract, which runs from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2029. The services provided in the new contract will remain the same -weekly collections (on your same collection day) of garbage, recycling, and yard waste (in season); a spring and fall bulk trash pickup day; tags for purchase for excess waste, large items, and electronics; tire and white goods disposal; and holiday tree pickup in January. Although the quarterly fee for all services with the 95-gallon garbage carts will increase to $80.70 during the first three years and to $83.70 for the final two years of the contract, these rates are significantly lower than some surrounding communities where fees range from $98 to $132 per quarter.
Aiken will drop off new carts at your residence during July. The new carts are to be used on your first collection day in August. Tri-County will remove the current carts after their last collection day in July. All Tri-County carts must be put at the street on your last collection day in July and left there until picked up by Tri-County. Due to this overlap, you will have multiple carts on your property for a short time during the transition. The new Aiken carts will be black in color, with a black lid for garbage, blue lid for recyclables, and green lid for yard waste. Customers will receive their first quarterly bill from Aiken in mid-July for the months of August, September, and October.
If you have questions regarding your service or billing, please contact Aiken Refuse Customer Service directly at 724-758-9400, or use their website at www.aikenrefuse.com. Other concerns can be directed to the city at 724-981-0800, ext. 1265, or emailing jcoxe@hermitage.net.
