JAN 10th - Sharon-Herald - OTHER BUSINESS:
Hermitage Zoning hearing board
members Wednesday granted variances for: A 3-foot front yard setback and a 17-foot street side setback for Sherry Christner of 391 Greenville Road, West Salem Township, for a mobile home at 809 N. Water Ave. The zoning ordinance requires a 35- foot front yard setback and a 30-foot street side setback on corner lots.  Approved a 22-foot, 1- inch maximum height for a garage built by Clayton and Barbara Sheasley, 2565 N. Neshannock Road, at that location. The maximum height set in the zoning ordinance is 20 feet.

Planning commission members Monday: Recommended approval of a subdivision for John J. and Linda S. Gadola and Robert L. Brindza Sr. adjusting the property lines of 1740 and 1778 Christy Road. If commissioners approve the plan, it will settle a property dispute stemming from a 2010 sheriff sale of 1740 Christy in which both properties were listed on the deed.

DEC 24th - Sharon-Herald - Hermitage issues permits for $375,830 in work
- Hermitage issued 19 building permits for $375,830 in new construction in November. The majority of the value is taken up by two projects: building a pavilion at Diversified Family Services, 5454 E. State St., a $180,000 project; and a new roof over J.C. Penney at Shenango Valley Mall, $170,000.

DEC 24th - Sharon-Herald - Lake taking used evergreens - Do not throw your natural Christmas trees away after the holidays are over! Take them out to Shenango Lake and let them serve as fish habitat. To increase habitat nesting and protective structure for fish, the U.S. Amry Corps of Engineers at Shenango Lake is asking local communities in the area to support this project. Only natural trees will be used, and trees with decorations and garland still attached will not be accepted. Trees can be dropped off beginning Jan. 1 at the Shenango Recreaton Area boat launch parking lot, 492 West Lake Road, Transfer (adjacent to the Shenango Campground). A section of the parking lot will be designated for drop-offs.

Dec 23rd - Sharon-Herald - OTHER BUSINESS - Hermitage Commissioners Wednesday:
· Adopted a new storm water management ordinance, replacing the 1991 ordinance, to conform with a Mercer County plan adopted last year. The major difference between the old and new ordinances is the triggering mechanism. The old ordinance kicked in when 5,000 square feet or more of impervious surface would be created by a building project. The new ordinance comes into play with projects creating
more than 2,500 square feet of impervious surface.

· Adopted an ordinance approving a general fund budget of $11,157,833 for 2012. The budget includes a $42 increase in the Local Services Tax, which was enacted earlier in the month, to generate about $300,000 more a year for road and storm water improvement projects. All other taxes are unchanged. These budgets also were approved: capital reserve fund, $346,000; construction fund, $1,606,864; sanitary sewer utility fund, $6,797,785; highway aid fund, $418,095; LindenPointe facilities fund, $165,255; vested sick leave, $253,345; Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency loan, $50,913; capital improvement fund, $135,943.

· Adopted an ordinance to lease space in the city building to Berkheimer Tax Administration, Bangor, Pa., the company taking over the collection of all earned income taxes imposed in the county, for $1 for a year.

· Adopted an ordinance changing the billing cycle for non-residential sanitary sewer users from quarterly to monthly, starting in January. Commissioners previously changed the billing cycle for residential customers to monthly, also effective next year.

· Approved a subdivision and a land development plan for Mel Grata to consolidate five parcels for the Chevrolet, Toyota and Scion car dealership in the 2700 and 2800 blocks of East State Street into one; and demolish the existing Toyota and Scion building, reconfigure the entrance drives, raze a section of the Chevrolet dealership building to make way for an addition, add landscaping and extend a sidewalk.
Approved a sanitary sewer planning module for the proposed Kohl’s department store development on the Shenango Valley Freeway.
