The purpose of the ordinance is to protect the economic, environmental and public health of the City of Hermitage and the larger watersheds of which the City is a part of. Proper control and management of stormwater runoff reduces water pollution, flooding and erosion of stream banks and recharges ground water reserves and base flow of stream systems. Activities regulated by the stormwater management ordinance are mainly new construction projects (residential or commercial) which create more than 2,500 sq. ft. of impervious surfaces. An impervious surface is one that does not allow the absorption of stormwater into the soil, such as buildings, patios, paved driveways, parking lots, etc. City staff and engineers are currently developing informational materials and manuals to assist developers, contractors and homeowners in understanding and complying with the new requirements. We will be adding a stormwater section to the City's website in the near future, and will include more detailed articles and information in the next edition of the City newsletter.
